Ingredients

  • 1 cup stone-ground grits
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove lid and simmer uncovered until desired consistency is reached, stirring frequently to prevent sticking. Stir in any number of additions: cheese, scallions, chopped bacon.
